Long-Term Care Insurance: Protecting Consumers From Hidden Rate Hikes

September 13, 2000

Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Special Committee on Aging, is a strong proponent of long-term care insurance. He is the sponsor of legislation to give people tax incentives to buy the policies. In that capacity, he feels a responsibility to protect consumers from unanticipated long-term care insurance premium increases. This hearing features a representative from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, which is working on a rate stabilization plan; a lawyer who has filed several class-action lawsuits on behalf of policyholders; and insurance industry representatives.
