COMMITTEE ON AGING FORUM: Transforming Health Care Systems for the 21st Century: Issues and Opportunities for Improving Health Care for The Chronically Ill
May 13, 1997
Meeting the needs of a growing chronically-ill population in the United States will place tremendous strain on our current health care financing systems. While important actions were taken by Congress in 1997, as part of the Balanced Budget Agreement, to address the solvency of the Medicare program, long-term solvency cannot be achieved without taking additional steps to transform the way we deliver and finance care for the chronically ill. The five participants in this forum will outline a policy framework for identifying the problems within our current system, as well as highlight innovative solutions. Four issues will drive this discussion: demographics, financing, structure of delivery systems and regulation. Date: May 13, 1997 Time: 9:30 am Room: 902 Hart
