MEDIA ADVISORY Chairman Scott, Ranking Member Gillibrand Announce Aging Committee Hearing on Reducing Senior Loneliness Through Strong Family and Community Support

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, March 12, Chairman Rick Scott and Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging will convene a committee hearing entitled, “Breaking the Cycle of Senior Loneliness: Strengthening Family and Community Support.” This hearing will include expert witness testimony focusing on various initiatives designed to reduce senior loneliness, explore the impacts of social isolation on older Americans and identify practical steps that communities, families and lawmakers can take to better provide support for the nation’s aging population. Strengthening family and community support for American seniors is one of the four goals that Chairman Scott announced during the Committee’s first hearing on improving wellness among seniors. 

Witnesses for the hearing will include:

  • Suzanne McCormick, President and CEO, YMCA of the USA, Tampa, FL
  • Tori Strawter-Tanks, Director, Clayton County Senior Services Department, Jonesboro, GA
