MEDIA ADVISORY Chairman Scott, Ranking Member Gillibrand Announce Upcoming Aging Committee Hearing on Combating the Opioid Epidemic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tomorrow, February 26, Chairman Rick Scott and Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, will convene a hearing entitled, “Combating the Opioid Epidemic.” The Committee will welcome testimony from expert witnesses on ways to confront this devastating crisis that claims the lives of more than 70,000 Americans each year. This hearing aims to identify solutions that can help mitigate the toll of opioid addiction, enhance prevention efforts, and strengthen support for those responding to and affected by this ongoing public health emergency.

Witnesses for the hearing will include:

  • Malik Burnett, MD, MBA, MPH, Vice Chair, Public Policy Committee, American Society of Addiction Medicine, Baltimore, MD
