Casey’s Spotlight: Nourishing Our Golden Years

Far too many older Americans don’t know where their next meal is coming from. And that is just wrong. They should not struggle in their golden years for something as basic as the security of knowing they will be able to eat and that the food will be nutritious.

Yesterday, the Senate Special Committee on Aging held a hearing to examine the issue of hunger and nutrition in older adults. In my role as the Ranking Member of the Committee, I invited Pat Taylor, from Penn Hills, Pennsylvania to testify about the importance of the senior food box that she receives every month as a result of the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).

Last month, I joined some of my colleagues in sending a letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee urging robust funding for CSFP.  I will continue to work to enhance funding for critical nutrition assistance programs.
