Urges Seniors to Seek Assistance from Aging Committee Fraud Hotline
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Senator Rick Scott, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, released the below statement following the publication of the Federal Trade Commission Fraud Data Report for 2024. As Chairman of the Special Committee on Aging, Senator Scott is urging seniors to be vigilant against fraud and scams, and seek assistance from the committee’s Fraud Hotline for help reporting fraud.
Chairman Rick Scott said, “Every year, more Americans are becoming victims of fraud and seniors are no exception. The Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) recently released report revealed a 25% increase in fraud losses last year among all Americans, with seniors reportedly losing more than $2.3 billion in 2024 alone. We know that scammers are using more sophisticated methods, particularly government imposter scams, to target and manipulate seniors. As Chairman of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, protecting older Americans is a top priority and we are committed to fighting back against fraud and the criminals behind it. That’s why I am proud that earlier this month, the Senate unanimously passed my bipartisan resolution designating March 6, 2025, as National Slam the Scam Day. These efforts aimed at boosting fraud prevention and education are key to our fight against fraud, but everyone has a role to play. Every American, especially our seniors, should stay vigilant, report suspicious activity, and help combat fraud by sharing critical information to protect themselves and others.”
