KOHL RELEASES STATEMENT ON SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Herb Kohl, Chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, released the following statement today on Social Security reform:

 

"Social Security provides vital benefits to over 50 million of our most vulnerable citizens, including retirees, surviving family members, and the disabled.  I look forward to working with the administration, the committees of jurisdiction, and like-minded members to ensure the program's solvency and improve benefits for those who most need them.  We need to be very careful-we must not balance our budget on the backs of seniors.  While our first priority in Congress is reforming the health care system, the Aging Committee intends to take up the issue of strengthening Social Security this summer."
